Every Day a Miracle

Memoir / Missionary Life  ·  2025  ·  Mary-Kate Martin

Synopsis

Africa is under my skin, and it's soul-deep. A stabbing itch on my back turns out to be a tiny worm — and in that humbling, mortifying moment, Mary-Kate is tempted to pack up and go home. But a greater resolve returns. Every Day a Miracle follows Mary-Kate's journey from Wisconsin teacher to missionary in eSwatini, Africa, where she co-founded Hosea's Heart — a safe home for girls who have nowhere else to go. This book is an honest, often funny, always moving account of what happens when you say yes to a calling that makes no logical sense.

Author’s Note

My pale Wisconsin skin glistens under the African sun. I'm mortified, exhausted, and tempted to go home. But Africa gets under your skin — deeper than you think. I wrote this book because people kept asking how I ended up in eSwatini, and the answer was never simple. It starts with a calling and ends somewhere I never expected: home.
